Are we getting enough sleep?

On May 12th, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

Sleep seems to be a common thread of Pollate user’s poll questions, so lets take a look at some results so far.  I’ve always understood that we should get eight hours of sleep, and I did a bit of looking around – the Mayo Clinic recommends seven to nine hours for adults.  As you can see below though, it doesn’t look like we’re getting there:

To me, its seems logical that the way we get woken up would also tell us if we’re getting enough shut eye.  Here 79% show needing help to wake up (alarm or someone waking them):

I guess the good news is that only about a third of us say we’re tired when we wake up.  (Personally I’d love to be one of those 18% who say they are feel rested!)

Are you getting enough sleep? – answer these questions yourself and watch the results in real time, download Pollate from the iTunes app store (available worldwide).

NBA Playoff Semis

On May 7th, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

There are many user polls on Pollate, but seeing as its playoff time let’s look at the NBA playoffs results.  As of today, users are either very confident or playing it safe depending on conference.

For the Eastern series: Miami vs. Boston matchup, users give the nod to Miami (approx. 80% of those choosing sides), while they give Chicago the same advantage over Atlanta.  Check out the results:

In the West, respondents are much less convinced.  Here there is an even 50/50 split for both the LA vs. Dallas and Oklahoma vs. Memphis series.  (Interesting that Dallas has a 3-0 series lead too!)

Add your call in Pollate.  If you don’t already have the app, get it free from iTunes and add your 2 cents!

Tax Refund?

I was expecting a tax refund this year – apparently most are:

Although its nice to get money back, I think its a conspiracy by the government to make paying taxes more bearable! :-)

You Are What You Eat

I try to watch what I eat, but I’m a big fan of food.  As much as I try to eat ‘properly’, some of the not-so-good-for-me stuff gets in too.

I was impressed that 38% throw caution to the wind and eat it if it ‘looks tasty’.  I also respect those 12% who say their body is a temple – way to hold the line.

Tattoos on You

On April 19th, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

I really thought tattoos where more prevalent.  Where I live, it literally seems like almost everyone – old and young – have them.  I thought I’d run a poll to see – here are the results:

It would seem that maybe ‘everyone’ doesn’t have a tattoo.  Maybe people are too busy using their iPhones to get tattoos.

The Dogs Are Winning

On April 14th, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

Someone asked this question on Pollate: “Do you like dogs or cats better?” – I thought that this would be a pretty even match, but no, the dogs have a solid lead.  As of today, here are the results:

Who knew?  This is why I love this app (and yes, I may be biased as I wrote it) – you can discover things aren’t as you think you know.  Try to discover something you thought you knew too!

Can you make it through the day without a cup of coffee?

On April 13th, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

I thought this was an interesting poll.  I’m not a coffee drinker, but, to be honest, I couldn’t make it through the day without my caffeine fix – tea.  As of April 13, here are the results from Pollate:

I would have thought that the coffee drinkers out there – and I know there’s a lot of you – would need their fix like me.  Maybe not…

Are there any medical personnel on the plane?

On March 31st, 2011, posted in: Uncategorized by admin

We were on an airplane this morning returning from a great vacation when the flight attendant suddenly used the intercom to ask if there were any medical personnel on the plane.  Apparently there was a minor emergency with one of the passengers, and after the announcement, I saw a lady climb out of her seat to help (she practically sprung out from the window seat!).  When we landed we waited while paramedics first boarded the plane to help the passenger out.  When we did exit the plane, we saw him being helped at the gate – luckily he looked to be in decent shape, whew!

This led my wife and I to talk about first aid and CPR training.  We both had basic training when our first child was a baby, but nothing since.  To be honest, I mostly only remember the fireman who gave the training was a great guy… Maybe we should get a refresher course!

How many other people can help out in medical emergencies?  How many of us can handle the minor emergencies that happen at home?  I’m always wondering about these types of questions - I created a poll in the Pollate app if you want to give your $0.02.
